Reconstruction of the entire length of the Kádár dűlő will be completed – Ondód access road will become safer and more comfortable
As part of the Debrecen2030 programme, the entire length of the Kádár dűlő, which connects the Ondód district with Debrecen, will be renewed. The completion of the 1.5-kilometre-long section, which is now being renovated, will complete the multi-phase road renovation, thus renewing the entire 4.4-kilometre access road.
The aim of the project is to make transport safer and more comfortable for people living outside the city. The works will involve the removal of worn asphalt and the laying of a new wearing course, as well as local binder course replacement and pavement resurfacing, for a gross amount of HUF 158 million from the municipality.
“In recent years, we have renovated the road leading here in five stages, 2.9 kilometers long, and now the renovation of the one-and-a-half-kilometer final section is coming up. Thus, the entire access road to the Ondód district will be renovated. This was a promise to the people living here, and now we are fulfilling this promise,” Mayor of Debrecen, László Papp said. He added, “In 2025, we will also experience the year of large-scale transport developments. The city is currently undergoing the reconstruction of two large junctions: Szoboszlói Road – Erzsébet Street – Külsővásártér, and the capacity-increasing investment of the Balmazújvárosi Road – Füredi Road – Csigekert Street – Szabó Lőrinc Street junction; the connection of the northern bypass of Main Road 354 and Domokos Márton Road has begun, and in the second half of May, the reconstruction of the intersection of Vámospércsi – Hétvezér – Budai Nagy Antal Street will also begin, and we are also planning to build new roads.”
The investment is particularly important for Ondód, as this is the only road connecting the district to Debrecen. Regarding the development, Municipal Representative of the district Erzsébet Katona, highlighted, “This road has been of central importance to the people of Ondód for years. After the renovation of the community centre, this was their other most important request. We worked in several stages, always taking into account the available resources. We did not stop even during the epidemic period. We have now achieved our goal: the last, 1,500-meter section will be completed.”
The construction is expected to be completed by mid-June, depending on weather conditions. The city government’s goal is to serve Debrecen’s growing traffic safely and sustainably in the long term.
