Renovation continues: serious restrictions on the highway in the Debrecen area

is known, in September 2022, the Hungarian Concession Infrastructure Development Company took over the operation and maintenance of more than 1,200 kilometers of expressways from the Hungarian state. According to the contract concluded with the Hungarian State, approximately 540 kilometers of the 1,237 kilometers of expressway network taken over must be brought to the same technical level as the rest within three years.

In the past two years, 8.7 million square meters of new asphalt have been laid on the roads they maintain, where necessary, the binder and base layers have been replaced under the upper wearing course.

In 2025, according to plans, an additional 3.2 million square meters of new pavement will be installed on the expressways operated by MKIF PLC, which represents 16 percent of the main road. According to the company’s statement, in 2025, the most work will be done on M3, M7, M1, M35, but in addition, work will be carried out on 7 other expressways (M15, M85, M86, M30, M4, M70, M8).

In the Debrecen area, pavement renovation works were carried out on the M35 motorway in 2023 and 2024, and last year the highway ramp on Main Road 4 was closed for a long time because of this.

Work is now continuing, with new restrictions introduced at Debrecen and on other sections:

  • Immediately before the M3 junction, the outer lane was closed to traffic coming from Debrecen at km 1 due to asphalt works.
  • The side leading to the M3 highway was closed between km 15 and 8. Traffic is moving on the opposite side, on one lane in each direction.
  • Further away, but on the opposite side, in the Debrecen area, the collector-distributor lane has been closed between km 36 and 34. The Debrecen-West junction at km 36 (the junction at the BMW factory) is also closed.
