Unpaved Road Repairs Underway Across Debrecen
Due to persistent precipitation, frequent freeze–thaw cycles, and significant temperature fluctuations, the structure of unpaved roads becomes loosened during the winter months.
Water seeps into the lower layers, accelerating the deterioration of the road surface and the formation of potholes. In addition to the ongoing maintenance of paved roads, restoration work is now beginning on unpaved sections as well.
These surfaces are maintained by the municipality through grading and resurfacing. Grading is carried out with a specialized machine that first scrapes and levels the road surface, followed by compaction with a road roller. Resurfacing involves spreading crushed stone over leveled but still potholed areas, then compacting the material again.
These works provide road users with a passable road surface again. On unpaved roads, these maintenance works often have to be repeated several times a year.
Repair works on unpaved roads began on February 11, 2026. In Phase I, work is being carried out on the following streets:
