Road Closure Lifted on Budai Nagy Antal Street Near Vámospércsi Road Junction
According to the plans, the contractor will complete the project in full by the start of the school year, which is expected to make traffic faster and safer at and around the busy junction.
A section of Budai Nagy Antal Street had been closed as far as Ruyter Street since mid-July to allow the new wearing course to be laid and road markings to be painted. The traffic lights were also dismantled during the works so that the necessary maintenance could be carried out. According to the plans, however, the traffic lights will once again control traffic at the junction of Budai Nagy Antal Street and Vámospércsi Road from Saturday.
Road markings have also now been painted in areas where they were still missing. In addition, the pedestrian islands are still being paved and the pavements are being resurfaced. As part of the HUF 1.4 billion capacity-enhancement project, a dedicated right-turn lane has been created in every direction at the junction, requiring the entire road structure to be rebuilt.
The Ministry of Transport deliberately scheduled the works causing the greatest traffic restrictions for the summer holidays. “By the end of August, all restrictions affecting road traffic and pedestrian movement at the junction will have been lifted, weather permitting, of course. The contractor will then only need to complete the road markings, carry out a small amount of paving work on the pavements, and in September the only remaining work will be planting vegetation,” said Zsombor Gábor, Head of the City Operations Department.
Thanks to the development, the capacity of the junction of Budai Nagy Antal Street and Vámospércsi Road, one of Debrecen’s busiest intersections, could increase by as much as 20 per cent.
