Road Resurfacing Complete on Halastó Street
Construction of the section of Halastó Street between Diófa Street and Vág Street has been completed. As a result of the project, a durable block-paved road surface has been installed over a length of nearly 90 metres and a width of 4 metres. Details of the investment were presented by Lajos Barcsa, Deputy Mayor and city councillor for the district.
Lajos Barcsa highlighted that although, at first glance, the project concerns only a short section of road, its significance is much greater as Halastó Street not only makes daily travel more convenient for local residents, but also provides an important connection for those living on Diófa Street. Due to the current traffic arrangement, motorists can reach Vág Street from Diófa Street via Halastó Street, and from there continue to Kishegyesi Road, where a fully functional junction facilitates travel towards the city centre.
The Deputy Mayor recalled that after the previously missing unpaved section of Diófa Street had been improved, residents indicated that the development of Halastó Street was also important. As he emphasised, the current project has fulfilled a long-standing request from the local community.
Lajos Barcsa also explained that, as part of the project, the contractor not only constructed the new road surface but also resolved stormwater drainage issues. This is particularly important for the durability of the road, as standing rainwater can damage a newly completed surface within a few years. He added that the use of block paving was justified by technical considerations. Due to the street’s physical constraints, the machinery required for asphalt surfacing could not have been accommodated, leading engineers to select this solution.
Lajos Barcsa stressed that the Hatvan Street Garden district is one of Debrecen’s rapidly developing neighbourhoods, where the population has grown significantly in recent years. The city aims to ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with this growth, which is why several road construction and road refurbishment projects have been carried out in the area in recent years.
The construction of the new road on Halastó Street was completed at a total gross cost of HUF 70 million.
