Sections of Munkácsy Mihály and Víztorony Streets to be Renovated Soon
Road resurfacing is currently underway on Munkácsy Mihály Street, where transport development works began last week with the municipality scheduling road renovations across the city in response to residents’ needs.
Once work on this section is completed, resurfacing will continue on Víztorony Street. Deputy Mayor Diána Széles highlighted that this road development affects many people. Hundreds live in the area, and the road section carries significant through traffic. “Here, it is given special priority, as it concerns the access road to Fényesudvar, and the Bocskai Primary School is also located here, which likewise generates substantial traffic. So this is a road section that has become due for renovation, as a great many people use it,” said Diána Széles.
Mayor László Papp stated that Debrecen’s economic situation allows for more and more of such investments. He added that this year HUF 9.2 billion will be spent on developing the city’s transport system and road network. These investments are financed from local business tax revenues. “Our revenues have already exceeded expectations compared to the plans for March, which provides the opportunity for the city to build and to implement developments that serve the interests of its citizens. The city’s major economic development programme was designed precisely to ensure that the time would come when we could carry out developments serving the interests of the people of Debrecen from the wealth generated here,” emphasised the mayor.
A nearly 550-metre-long road section on Munkácsy Mihály Street and Víztorony Street will be renovated, and depending on the weather, the works will be completed within six weeks at the latest. A total of HUF 140 million has been allocated from the budget for this development.
