Several Roadwork Projects Scheduled for Completion Before Flower Carnival Week
Roadworks causing minor and major traffic restrictions are currently underway across Debrecen. The most significant refurbishment projects have been specifically scheduled for the school summer holidays, when traffic volumes are lower and disruption to road users is therefore reduced. Several projects will be completed before the start of Flower Carnival Week to avoid causing delays during the increased traffic expected over the festive period.
District heating pipeline replacement works have begun at the beginning of Burgundia Street. Due to demolition works, one bus stop has been temporarily relocated, while temporary closures of sections of the pavement, bus lane and traffic lane can be expected over the coming weeks.
“The works will continue until 10 August and there will be one temporary interruption to the hot water supply. This will take place on Wednesday, and my colleagues have already informed the affected customers in advance,” highlighted János Vaskó, Technical Director of Debreceni Hőszolgáltató Zrt.
The Vámospércsi Road end of Budai Nagy Antal Street has been temporarily closed across its full width along a short section as part of a junction capacity expansion project. A new wearing course of asphalt is being laid on the carriageway and traffic management works are also being carried out, marking the final phase of the large-scale state-funded investment.
According to plans, the closure of Budai Nagy Antal Street will remain in place until 7 August, while the reconstructed Vámospércsi Road–Hétvezér Street junction is expected to reopen to traffic in the middle of August, according to information provided by the Ministry of Transport and Investment.
Meanwhile, preparations have begun for large-scale resurfacing works on another urban section of Main Road 33. From 76 Füredi Road towards the city boundary, approximately 250 metres of carriageway will receive a new road surface, requiring lane closures. The complete refurbishment of the Debrecen section of Main Road 33, spanning almost two and a half kilometres, is expected to be completed by the beginning of September.
