An old favourite destination can return to the airport’s offer, and a city can be reached to which there was no flight from Debrecen.

“The Hungarian subsidiary of the Czech Smartwings Group will add new routes to its Hungarian offer in the summer 2025 timetable, with two new destinations planned from Budapest and Debrecen, ”airportal.hu reports based on the Aeroroutes timetable analysis site.

According to the report, from Debrecen, between the beginning of June and the end of September, it will be possible to travel to Barcelona and Tirana from the city’s airport once a week.

The airline’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft will fly to the Spanish city on Thursdays and to the Albanian capital on Mondays, according to the plans.

There was already a flight to Barcelona from Debrecen, operated by Wizz Air for a few years, but it has never been possible to fly to Tirana on a scheduled flight from Debrecen.

Last week, Israel’s Israir announced plans to launch a Debrecen-Tel Aviv flight at the end of April, which was also a popular Wizz Air flight before the 2023 Hamas terror attack on Israel.

Mayor László Papp said at the December general assembly meeting that after Wizz Air significantly reduced the number of its flights to Debrecen due to its own aircraft capacity problems, the municipality and the majority owner of the airport operator, the Ministry of National Economy, are continuously working on expanding the number of destinations.

The Mayor hopes that up to 3-4 new airlines will be able to appear at the airport.

Currently, travellers can fly to Munich with Lufthansa, and to London with Wizz Air. Wizz Air will restart its flight to Larnaca, Cyprus, in early April, but according to their schedule, contrary to preliminary plans, Burgas, Bulgaria, will not be accessible with them, but charter flights will be available.
