Sziget-kék Playground Nears 900,000 Visitors Since Opening
The carnival season is already in full swing across the country. Institutions in Debrecen are not idle either: on February, Sziget-kék playground welcomed all wishing to bid farewell to winter. Some created noisy instruments to chase away the cold months, many little ones tried face painting, but most made masks by hand.
The organizers’ goal on such occasions is for families to spend meaningful time together. “Arts-and-crafts activities, where children and parents create together, are becoming increasingly popular. Families and children alike really love this. We are very happy to welcome people who take part in these activities,” said folk playhouse head and educator Zsuzsanna Erdős.
Sziget-kék is very popular among families in Debrecen. “In recent years, since mid-2022 when we opened the facility, nearly 900,000 people have visited. This is good feedback that there is a demand for family programs and for venues that we create primarily for the benefit of families. If this can be combined with traditional events such as festivities connected to the carnival season, then we can provide truly meaningful programs for families,” said Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa.
Last Sunday’s greates spectacle was the carnival parade. Among the costumed children were superheroes, ladybugs, and princesses, each of whom received a small gift from the organizers.
