Texas gospel melodies to be heard during Advent in Debrecen

This year, a choir from Dallas, Texas, will be coming to Gospel Christmas.

One of the stops on the 25-stop European tour will be the Kölcsey Center in Debrecen. Gospel Christmas brings church songs from the United States to the Debrecen Advent every year.

The Marquinn Middleton and Miracle Chorale choir will bring the magic of gospel to Debrecen on December 8. The Dallas group will be joined by two star performers: world-famous soloist David Bratton and singer-songwriter Lateice Crawford. Gospel Christmas goes on a European tour with a different gospel choir every year. What makes this year’s concert even more interesting is that a choir of 30 singers, larger than ever before, will take to the stage.

“The way thirty people sing and move at the same time creates a magic that people can only experience if they go to a church in America and attend a mass there, a real gospel mass. We usually say that the choirs bring a church to the concert venue,” Jeney Domokos, the manager of the European Gospel tour, said.

The group will perform in six Hungarian cities during its European tour. The Gospel Christmas always returns to Debrecen, as the audience here loves this genre very much.

Deputy Mayor István Puskás said at the press conference announcing the event that an important goal of the events of Debrecen Advents is to prepare us spiritually for the most wonderful holiday of the year. The city has a centuries-old tradition of choral singing, and gospel music represents a unique slice of this tradition. “The joy of singing together and the purification of the soul through singing together, the preparation of the soul with what is above us—all of this is present in the gospel. Although it is not a tradition of our own, it can be a very familiar situation,” István Puskás emphasized.

Gospel Christmas traditionally also undertakes charitable goals. The singers will also surprise children from a kindergarten in Debrecen. Four days after their performance in Debrecen, the Dallas gospel choir will give a concert at the Vatican in front of Pope Leo XIV.
