Thanks to the continuous tourism boom, the sector is performing outstandingly this year as well.

Visit Hungary announced that the number of guests already exceeded 10 million on July 23 of this year, and the tourism sector has already handled a number of guests exceeding the population of Hungary.

Last year this success was achieved later, on July 29, according to the data of the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK). All this clearly shows that the desire to travel is unwavering, the international appeal of our country is growing stronger, and our compatriots are also happy to disconnect domestically.

They shared that the 10 million guest number registered in NTAK was divided approximately equally between domestic and international travelers, with the 11 percent increase in the number of foreigners being particularly outstanding.

CEO of the national marketing organisation, Olivér Csendes emphasised in the statement that thanks to the developments of recent years, the richness of guest experiences, the quality of services, and the diversity of the offer have reached a new level, and they can convey this message to more and more guests.

He said that therefore, Visit Hungary’s international and domestic, experience-based campaigns and new types of marketing activities also play an important role in the success.

The largest number of international travelers came from Germany, followed by Romania, the United Kingdom, Poland, and Italy.

Budapest received 39 percent of tourists, with 14 percent more coming to the capital this year than in the same period last year.

In terms of the increase in international tourist traffic, the capital is the domestic champion with a 15 percent increase. Foreign guests also enjoyed visiting rural settlements, with Hévíz, Győr, Szeged, Siófok, and Sárvár being the most visited cities.

Most domestic guests set off from Budapest, Pest, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, and Hajdú-Bihar counties. Their number one destination was Lake Balaton, after which most domestic travelers have visited the Mátra-Bükk, the Budapest area, Debrecen and its region, as well as the Tokaj and Nyíregyháza regions so far this year.

Visit Hungary announced that the Balaton lakeside and spa towns were the favourite settlements among Hungarians, and most of them spent their vacations in Siófok, Balatonfüred, Hajdúszoboszló, Zalakaros, and Hévíz. Tourism remains an important driving force of the domestic economy. Thanks to the continuous tourism boom, the sector is performing outstandingly this year as well; after the 5 million in early May, the number of guests reached the new milestone of 10 million in less than 3 months.
