The city assembly voted to delay the entry into force of the new parking system in Debrecen
At its Thursday meeting, the Debrecen General Assembly amended the regulation on the new city parking regulations, adopted last November, on several points.
It was then decided that the Debrecen municipality would establish a zone-based parking system from 1 July 2025 – not covering the entire city – in order to make parking near their homes easier and free of charge for Debrecen residents living in paid zones, to promote greater use of local and intercity public transport, and to reduce the ever-increasing traffic load in the city centre and city centre areas. This also means that parking will have to be paid for in many areas of the city where it was not required before. The changes were pushed for by residents who could no longer park near their homes.
Thursday’s general meeting decided on these changes:
• The regulation will come into force on August 1, 2025 instead of July 1, 2025
• As a technical simplification, the address on the official certificate proving the address will now be the only address for free parking near the residence during registration with the public service provider, i.e. the address on the registration permit does not have to be the same as the permanent address on the address card
• Residents are also entitled to free parking with a passenger car with a gross weight not exceeding 3.5 tons that is given to them for exclusive use by their employer and is owned or operated by the employer, in the immediate vicinity of their residence upon presentation of the employer’s certificate, with a maximum of 2 natural persons per address, 1 passenger car
• According to the regulation, the main entrance of nurseries, kindergartens and primary schools located in the surface zones Waiting areas within 25 meters of the parking lot can still be used free of charge during care, education, and training hours, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
• There will be no parking fee in the Green Zone on Saturdays
• Those who have purchased a monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly parking pass so far will have their pass extended by one month. DV Parking Kft. will refund the price of the pass for those who have a valid pass purchased in July but do not take advantage of the opportunity to have it valid for August.
Car owners living on the streets newly included in the second phase of the transformation have been able to register for free parking for some time now. Residents can do this on the website www.dvparking.hu. So far, nearly five thousand registrations have been received through the DV Parking website.
Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs spoke about the prominent role of suburban fixed-track transport and promised that the city management centre under construction would bring about a significant improvement in the traffic situation in Debrecen.
At the general meeting, it was revealed in response to a question from the public that residents can request free parking near their homes not only for cars, but also for motorcycles.
