The city’s Christmas tree was set up in Debrecen’s main square
The city’s Christmas tree was cut down and then set up on the main square of Debrecen on Friday.
The 14-meter-high silver fir tree was cut down at 8.00 a.m. at Kerekestelep, and was then transported to Kossuth Square. The tree was donated to the city by Zsolt Pápai.
“For years, we had been thinking about how beautiful this tree would look in the main square, and this year I noticed the announcement on dehir.hu that we could nominate our own pine tree as the town’s Christmas tree. I took the opportunity, took a few photos and sent in my application,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Diána Széles also thanked the family for their donation. She emphasized that coordinated work is necessary for the city of Debrecen’s Christmas tree to reach the main square.
“The firefighters cut it down, Opus Titász provides the conditions for this free of charge. Kemad, Tran-Sped, the Debrecen Police Department, Trans-Sped Kft., DH-Szerviz Kft., Mechatron Line Szolgáltató Kft. and Dekert are the ones who help with the transport and lifting. These companies have been voluntarily undertaking this for years,” she said.
The tree will be decorated with no less than 16,500 bulbs, the lights of which—together with the city’s decorative lighting—will be turned on on the first Sunday of Advent, November 30.
European Best Destinations has selected Debrecen as the only Hungarian city among the TOP 20 Best Christmas Markets in Europe. Visitors can also vote for Debrecen to become Europe’s Most Beautiful Advent Fair. Votes can be cast on this page.
