The Debrecen school’s building will also be enlarged and refurbished
More than five thousand square meters of renovations will be carried out, and nearly eight thousand square meters of extensions will be completed.
As reported, the participation phase of the Ministry of Construction and Transport’s public procurement procedure, which was announced for the construction of a new dormitory at the Mechwart András Mechanical and Informatics Technical School, was successful. Twelve companies applied for the work, and the ministry invited all twelve to submit bids.
Now the Ministry of Construction and Transport has published another public procurement competition call, this time for the renovation of the school building. The work will probably have to be carried out simultaneously with the construction of the dormitory.
According to the tender documentation published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the 100-year-old building with a basement, ground floor, and 2 floors and the associated workshops, as well as the so-called new wing built in the 1980s, are located on the Széchenyi Street site. The imposing school building is extremely worn and, in some places, in a very neglected condition.
The existing building will have to be renovated (minor floor plan renovation, renovation and reinforcement of the roof structure, construction of a larger teacher’s room, and conversion of several classrooms), and new workshops, as well as several theoretical and IT classrooms, will be built in the new part of the building based on the modified local building regulations.
The workshops of the building to be demolished will have to be replaced in the new part of the building, and the construction of a new sports field and running track in place of the existing sports field is also part of the task.
Following the demolition of the existing separate single-story workshop building and metal-framed changing room building, a building with a partially basemented ground floor and three upper floors is to be constructed.
Renovations will be carried out on an area of more than five thousand square meters, and an extension of nearly eight thousand square meters will be completed after the demolition of the building sections that will be replaced by the extension.
Companies can apply for the call until January 5.
A dormitory is also being built
Mechwart will also receive a dormitory in another investment, which will have 252 beds with 126 dormitory rooms.
The underground garage planned for the basement level of the dormitory and the ground-floor utility entrance will be accessible from the backyard, from the neighboring plot, and from the back garden side of the building.
The new dormitory will be five-story (basement, ground floor, and 4 upper floors), with a usable floor area of 9,505 square meters. It will house several teacher rooms, a 54-seat lecture hall, and two elevators.
In order to create the Debrecen automotive center, three Debrecen high schools would be developed (all three participate in BMW’s dual training program), and Mayor Laszló Papp and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently agreed to provide the necessary state funds for this. The public procurement procedure for the renovation and expansion of the Brassai and Beregszászi technical schools is also underway.
