The development of the busiest junction in the eastern part of the city is progressing well

The reconstruction of the busy intersection of Vámospércsi Road began a month and a half ago. The capacity-increasing investment includes the replacement of utility lines and road surfaces, the reconstruction of train tracks, and the creation of new lanes and pedestrian crossings.

In recent weeks, experts have been working on the reconstruction of the drinking water pipeline between Budai Nagy Antal Street and Kolónia Street, and the fence of the elementary school located there was replaced along the temporary sidewalk. The reconstruction of one of the busiest intersections in the eastern part of the city also affects the Zsuzsi Forest Railway, as its track must be relocated to implement the capacity expansion.

During the junction development, the traffic on the Zsuzsi Forest Railway will also change: trains will not touch the Hétvezér Street stop and the Ruyter Street terminus until August 20. Passengers will be transported between the temporary Létai Street stop and Hármashegyalja.

The comprehensive transport development investment is progressing according to schedule, currently four to five percent complete. During the investment, water, gas, and electricity pipes will be replaced under the pavement. The traffic lights will be rebuilt, and new pedestrian crossings will be created.

A right-turn lane will be created from each direction of the intersection, which will require the reconstruction of the entire track structure. The junction will receive a new, reinforced pavement to withstand the significant traffic load in the long term.

“One of the busiest intersections in Debrecen is the Vámospércsi – Budai Nagy Antal – Hétvezér junction. The reconstruction will increase the throughput capacity of this intersection by up to fifteen to twenty percent, “Head of the City Operations Department Zsombor Gábor explained.

The HUF 1.4 billion investment by the Ministry of Construction and Transport will involve traffic restrictions. From the end of July until the start of school, the end of Budai Nagy Antal Road will be closed, and traffic will be diverted to Ruyter Street.

The large-scale interchange development on Vámospércsi Road is expected to be completed by next September.
