The Gourmet Festival awaits visitors with a film-themed menu
The three-day gastronomic parade is one of the city’s most vital summer community spaces, featuring local values, national chef legends, and family experiences. Last year, almost six thousand people visited the event, which this year awaits guests with an even more diverse programme.
Creative cuisine will take centre stage in the heart of the Great Forest from June 13 to 15.
The Debrecziner Gourmet Festival is set to welcome visitors with a film theme this year. The country’s most famous chefs, including Zoltán Pauli, Lajos Bíró, and Ádám Mészáros, await the audience, who can taste the flavours known from the big screen.
“We will bring two dishes. The first is a crab main course inspired by Forrest Gump, inspired by the crab boat, and the second is the Cubano sandwich, which is a hot sandwich made from mangalica, a local cheese, and a favourite dish of Cuban guest workers,” chef Ádám Thür highlighted at the festival’s press conference.
This year’s gastro festival will be different from previous ones in several ways. Special attention will be paid to children and those with lactose and gluten sensitivities. For example, there will be pizza and spaghetti, especially for the youngest guests, but the organisers are also preparing many other novelties this year. A new attraction awaits visitors, featuring a container kitchen where chefs will prepare dishes with show cooking and offer tastings in a separate, interactive location.
“This year, we will have another attraction because we have built a show kitchen on Lake Békás, where chefs will cook, and it will also be a bit like a cooking show because they talk about how they prepare the food. They will share with visitors and guests practical tips on how to prepare each dish even more deliciously,” managing director of Főnix Event Organiser, Zita Dobos, said.
In the “revolving stage” concept, several renowned restaurants will take turns occupying a single location.
Twenty-three excellent restaurants will be introduced, including the Michelin-recommended Horgonyzó Kisvendéglő, Végállomás Bistorant, Andrássy Kúria, Mák Bisztró, Anyukám mondta, as well as the Michelin-starred chef Ádám Mészáros. The three-day gastronomic parade is one of the city’s most important summer community spaces with local values, national chef legends, and family experiences.
Gastronomic enthusiasts will also be enriched with musical experiences in a fresh, green environment. Among others, Balázs Bolyki, Kati Wolf, and Vera Tóth will perform.
“This is an excellent programme to create an image of the state of Hungarian gastronomy. We are proud to be achieving increasingly high-quality results on an international level, and, of course, this is also a learning opportunity to gain insight into the secrets of other workshops. This can also mean a development process for Debrecen gastronomy,” Mayor László Papp emphasised.
Among many special dishes, the soup with the fantasy name “Bendegúz’s trousers string” will be available to try at the Gourmet Festival starting next Friday. For more information, click here.
