The international constructive and motivational power of music has reached Debrecen
A performance by young artists from Debrecen opened the conference of Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI), the global youth music organization, on Friday.
JMI reaches tens of millions of young people around the world each year. It is present in sixty-one countries and is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. The core message of JMI is that young people should be built up, empowered, and motivated through music. Experts have arrived at the event from countries including Cambodia, Canada, China, and Brazil.
“We don’t train professional musicians, but we provide tools, methods, and connections that help young musicians succeed more easily. This can include communication training or leadership development. In addition, Jeunesses is actively involved in the work of the European Music Council,” Dávid Zsoldos, President of Jeunesses Musicales Hungary, said.
Deputy Mayor István Puskás stated that Debrecen has always been a city that nurtures young people and emerging talent. “Just looking at this weekend: the Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition is currently underway, the International Summer Academy for Young Musicians is taking place at the Faculty of Music of the University of Debrecen, and on Saturday, young alternative bands will gather in the city,” he added.
He stressed that they are very proud that Debrecen can host the annual conference of such a long-standing and internationally connected organization. He believes that Debrecen will be a good host for this meeting and thinks that through culture and music, we can make a real contribution to shared responsibility.
During the four-day JMI international conference and annual general assembly, experts will hold discussions and explore the cultural values of Debrecen.
