The laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering in Debrecen has been enriched with a 50 million machine
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen cooperates with several companies in order to ensure that students can acquire the most modern technologies during their training and that the graduated engineers can immediately take their place in the labor market. Engel, a leader in the production and automation of plastic injection molding machines, is one of them, which has now donated a high-value electric plastic injection molding machine to the University of Debrecen. Plastic-Form Ltd. from Debrecen provides the injection molding tool for the machine, and AD Plastik Tisza Ltd. provides the raw materials and peripherals necessary for operation.
Vice-Rector for Sector Development responsible for the development of agricultural and food science, Endre Harsányi, said at the handover ceremony, “Knowledge transfer, corporate cooperation, and practical training are keywords at the University of Debrecen that represent the basic pillars of the training.”
“We must appreciate our partner companies; they confirm to us that our research is on the right track, as they are interested in their results. Some companies also need to have an outsourced department, and the best case scenario is when a lab is established here, in the building of the University of Debrecen. Our students can only truly become practical experts if all the conditions for practical training are met. Thank you for your cooperation and support,” he said.
Vice-Dean of Science at the Faculty of Technology, Imre Kocsis recalled that the institution has undergone significant development in recent years. In addition to their own efforts, the industrial development of Debrecen and the region contributed to this, the university management treated the development of technical training as a priority, and also the fact that their corporate partners provide significant professional, infrastructural, and financial support.
“With the establishment of the School of Mechanical Engineering, all levels of technical training are now available in Debrecen, from vocational training to engineering training,“ he stated.
The deputy head of the department added,” The infrastructure at the faculty is constantly being renewed, new building wings are being created, and old ones are being renovated. Technical training will thus be able to operate in worthy conditions in the coming decades.”
The head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Tamás Mankovits, spoke about the fact that 90 percent of their plastic industry training is taught by industrial engineers and senior engineers, which is a guarantee of practice-orientedness and the success of the training.
“This is a significant milestone in the life of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The equipment that has just been handed over represents the most modern technology, and has never been available at the University of Debrecen. We strive to ensure that as many theses and diploma theses as possible are created in connection with the use of the machine, “ he emphasised.
Sales Director of the Austrian-based Engel Hungária Ltd., Ákos Horváth highlighted at the handover that the machine was equipped with all the solutions and software that support production and help it operate efficiently, which is particularly important in education and research and development.
Managing Director of AD Plastik Tisza Ltd., Tamás Győr, expressed the opinion that their relationship with the Faculty of Engineering in Debrecen is an investment in the future. They hope that not only plastic parts will be formed here, but also young engineers and new talents will emerge after their studies.
Managing Director of Plastic-Form Ltd. Zsolt Burai noted that the new machine gives students, engineers, and researchers working at the department the opportunity to examine the possibilities of polymer injection molding in real conditions. They also agreed with the department to provide additional injection molding tools.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen currently offers, among other things, advanced training in polymer technology as a specialist engineer, as well as the materials technology specialisation in the undergraduate programme of mechanical engineering and the plastics injection molding specialisation created in the master’s programme of mechanical engineering. The Plastics and Rubber Materials Testing Laboratory and the composite manufacturing and injection molding tool design department began operating at the faculty in 2022. In recent years, almost a hundred engineers with such specialised qualifications have graduated; thus, the institution has grown into one of the leading knowledge bases in the plastics industry in Hungary east of the Danube.
