The most modern imaging equipment helps young patients recover in Debrecen

The management of the Clinical Center was informed about the operation of modern diagnostic equipment on Monday during a presidential visit. The center’s equipment will soon be expanded with an MRI device. The modern devices will also be used in adult patient care, according to plans.

“The management of the University of Debrecen and the Clinical Center is committed to guaranteeing safe, fast and high-quality care for children by using the most modern technological solutions. In the spirit of this endeavor, the Pediatric Emergency Center operates modern diagnostic equipment specifically specialized for the needs and abilities of children, which contributes to the continuous improvement of the quality of treatment,” emphasized Professor Zoltán Szabó, President of the Clinical Center.

An imaging diagnostic department was established in the Pediatric Emergency Center, which was opened last summer, where emergency cases are primarily examined.

The modern ultrasound and X-ray departments also help the high-quality operation of the Pediatric Clinic as a whole, as patients from certain specialized outpatient clinics are also provided with the necessary imaging examinations here.

It was already clear when the building was being designed that the installation of CT and MR equipment was essential for the implementation of the highest level of complex pediatric care. As an important milestone in this development concept, the purchase of the CT device was recently completed, and examinations were able to begin in the Pediatric Emergency Center a few weeks ago.

li“The new CT is a device that works with a low radiation dose, is supported by artificial intelligence, and is designed with protocols specialized for children. The modern imaging device provides significant assistance, especially in the rapid care of severe, polytraumatized children. In addition, this examination is particularly important in cases of injuries where a three-dimensional representation of the bone is essential for reconstruction. According to the plans, the equipment will be used not only in the care of children but also in the care of adults in the future. It is extremely important that the device is also intended to serve the safety of CT diagnostic care at the Nagyerdei Campus of the Clinical Center,” Professor Ervin Berényi, Director of the Medical Imaging Department of the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen, told hirek.unideb.hu.

The diagnostic equipment of the Pediatric Emergency Center will soon be expanded with an MRI device, which is expected to be put into operation next spring. The new device will also be purchased based on technical requirements specifically tailored to the specific needs of children. The modern machine is expected to examine 20-25 children per day, and it is also planned to be used in the care of adult patients—including heart, bone, and joint diagnostic examinations.

The CT and MRI equipment will be transferred to the University of Debrecen under a seven-year lease agreement, thanks to a unique financing structure.

The modern devices not only increase the safety and efficiency of pediatric care but also support high-quality research and education. The management of the Clinical Center was informed on site on Monday, as part of a presidential visit, about the imaging examinations performed at the Pediatric Emergency Center.

The Pediatric Emergency Center of the University of Debrecen Clinical Center provides the highest level of emergency care for children. The building houses emergency clinics, two operating rooms, a 15-bed pediatric surgery department, and an 18-bed emergency and accident department, and the new building also houses a pediatric emergency department.
