The road construction of Phase I of Tőr Street has been completed

More than 110 meters of Tőr Street in Júliatelep have been paved with asphalt.

Tőr Street is a small, quiet street in Júliatelep, and its first phase, spanning a length of 110 meters, has now been completed. The project cost HUF 40.6 million and included rainwater drainage, a new structural foundation, and asphalt paving, Mayor László Papp announced at a press conference held on-site on July 31, 2025.

He stated that summer is a season of intense work, and they aim to make the most of the school break period to minimize disruptions caused by the developments. However, he added that transportation infrastructure improvements cannot be confined solely to the summer months, so in many cases, projects will extend into the first half of the following year or may even span the entire next year.

“Under the framework of small-scale developments, new roads are being built, and existing but deteriorated roads are being renewed. These developments have been ongoing in Debrecen for years, as the city’s road network is vast,”  the mayor emphasized. He highlighted that last year, several billion forints were spent on these projects, and this year, similar funding is available for both small- and large-scale developments.

Mayor Papp also noted that major intersection upgrades are underway, and in addition to those, the city is implementing small-scale developments, such as the one on Tőr Street, through its own investments.

He mentioned that in the southern part of the city, road construction on Mandolás Street, intersection upgrades, and improvements to small residential roads are progressing well.

“Júliatelep has made significant progress over the past five to six years. During the 2014–2020 EU development cycle, we were able to allocate substantial TOP funding to improve the streets in Júliatelep. In the current cycle, we are continuing these developments using our own resources,” the mayor underlined.

István Becsky, the local government representative for the district, noted that since 2014, many streets in Júliatelep that were previously dirt roads have been resurfaced with new asphalt. He thanked the residents for their patience and expressed gratitude to the municipality for the developments carried out in his district.
