The Saint Anna Greek Catholic Kindergarten opened in Debrecen

The nursery of the Metropolitan Church of Hajdúdorog is completed. The complex named after St. Anna, built with almost one and a half billion HUF, will have eight classrooms, modern indoor and outdoor facilities and developmental toys for the little ones starting in January. Speaking at the blessing ceremony, Zsófia Koncz, State Secretary for Families, said that in 2010, there were 32,500 places in nurseries in the country, and today, the number is over 68,000.

Parents and children were welcomed at an open day at the soon-to-open St. Anne Greek Catholic Nursery at the end of October. Some people had already decided to bring their children here.

“We are also Greek Catholic, so I thought bringing up my children in the same way and the same faith was essential. So since my older son also goes to Catholic school, I thought, and I was thrilled to hear, that a Greek Catholic crèche is opening in Debrecen,” Nikolett Kosztin said.

According to the head of the child protection office of the Archdiocese of Hajdúdorog, the handover of the building has made an old dream of theirs come true.

”We can provide the citizens of Debrecen and the surrounding settlements, their families, children and adults with the opportunity for loving, caring, Christian-based education, from the nursery age group until the completion of secondary school studies,” Head of the Child Protection Office of the Archdiocese of Hajdúdorog, Margaréta Tóthné Tőkés emphasised.

At the handover, Archbishop-Metropolitan Fülöp Kocsis blessed the nursery, which now has the grandmother of Jesus as its patron saint. “A child must grow up in love; this is extremely important. His/her personality becomes healthy if he/she is surrounded by love from infancy,” he stated.

In his festive greeting, Mayor László Papp emphasised that the future of Debrecen lies in its children and added that it is a good feeling to experience that in the operation of the city, alongside the local government and the state, there are such strong pillars as the churches. “I am happy to say that in this city, there is such an ideal and harmonious relationship between the local government, the city and the church organisations operating in the city that we can count on each other in every respect, “ the Mayor added.

State Secretary for Families Zsófia Koncz highlighted that the government is working in three main areas for Hungarian families: financial situation, home creation, and balancing work and family. The opening of a new nursery contributes to this balance.

“If there is a success story, it is certainly the development of the nursery network, since in 2010 there were only 32,500 places in the country, now there are more than 68,000 places,” State Secretary for Families Zsófia Koncz revealed.

The 96-place St. Anne Greek Catholic Nursery, which will open in January, will have eight group rooms, developmental toys, and playgrounds.
