The Social Kitchen Now Operating at a New Location in Kondoroskert
Since mid‑November, residents of Debrecen’s Kondoroskert district have been able to collect hot meals provided through the social kitchen service at a new location.
Instead of the Kondoroskert Street site that had been in operation since autumn 2019, the Social Kitchen (Food Point) now functions at 4–6 Felsőpércsi Road.
According to the Act on Social Administration and Social Services, municipalities are required to provide at least one hot meal per day to socially disadvantaged individuals who are unable to secure it for themselves or their dependents, either on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is delivered through social kitchen. The social kitchen ensures at least one hot meal daily for those in need who do not use other meal services. In Debrecen, the municipality provides this service under a supply contract with the Civis Social Catering Centre. Currently, 7,500 people receive meals daily through the social kitchen, with 43 Food Points operating across the city.
The range of social services offered under the contract with the Civis Social Catering Centre was further expanded on August 1, 2025. The municipality entrusted the Centre with providing home assistance services for up to 500 residents living in the city’s outer districts (Biczó István Garden, Domokos Márton Garden, Bayk András Garden, Pac, Dombos, Szikigyakor, Kismacs, Nagymacs, Ondód, and Szepes). Through home assistance, the Centre supports individuals in their own living environment with the care needed to maintain independent living. Services include social support or personal care, which encompasses social assistance activities. For information, residents may call the toll‑free green number 06/80‑496‑600. Applications can also be submitted in person by completing a needs assessment form at the Food Points or at the Civis Social Catering Centre office (Debrecen, Szoboszlói Road 67).
On December 5, 2025, at the Food Point on Felsőpércsi Road 4–6, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles, responsible for social care policy, together with local municipal representative Gyöngyi Nagy Dankuné, handed out Santa packages to children living in the neighborhood.
