“As an integral part of the clinical integration, the integrated Surgical Clinic was established in 2022, operating on two sites, under unified management and according to unified clinical principles, with significant potential at national and international level. The management of the Clinical Centre is committed to continuous modernisation. Last year we completed the development of robotic surgery, and now we have created a new operating room for same-day surgical care,” President of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, Professor Zoltán Szabó said.
The Surgery Clinic is one of the largest and most extensive surgical institutions in the country. The clinic is a regional centre for breast and thyroid surgery, among others. The newly inaugurated surgical operating theatre will enable patients with breast and thyroid diseases who come to the Surgery Clinic to receive the highest level of safe care.
“ In view of the significant increase in the number of day surgery procedures for breast and thyroid operations in recent years and the regional role of the Surgery Clinic in this field, it was essential to create a modern operating room that meets all professional needs. Thanks to the establishment of the new unit, the specialists of the clinic will be able to ensure the institution’s leading role at the national level with excellent results in the future, too,” Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Surgery at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre Dezső Tóth emphasised.
The new operating theatre is planned to perform 800 to 1,000 same-day surgeries a year, most of which will be breast and thyroid surgeries.
Approximately eighty percent of breast and thyroid surgeries can be performed as a day surgery.
