The third Kodály Zoltán International Music Competition has started in Debrecen

The third Kodály Zoltán International Music Competition has begun. There were 110 entries from 26 countries on three continents: after the video auditions, 21 trumpet players, 15 horn players and 12 trombonists, including twelve Hungarian competitors, arrived in Debrecen.

“A competition like this is the perfect way to learn new pieces, to practice better. The final result of the competition is usually all the same, it’s obviously a great honour to win such an international competition, but I think it’s a great experience to participate,” Zsolt Bereczky said.

It is one of the most important competitions that is not held in the capital. The music competition always revolves around a single instrument, with strings taking the lead three years ago, conductors in 2023 and now the winds.

“Hungary has a very strong brass culture, and its trumpet, horn and trombone players are truly internationally renowned. I think this is an excellent opportunity to show that the next generation is no less good than the ancestors were,” chairman of the organising committee of the Kodály Zoltán International Music Competition Dávid Zsoldos Zsoldos pointed out.

The first two rounds of the competition, which will run until Thursday, are free of charge and will take place in the Simonffy Hall of the Debrecen Zenede.

The finals will be held on Saturday at the Kölcsey Centre and the gala concert will take place on Sunday at the same venue. The contestants will perform with the Kodály Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Imre Kollár.
