The University of Debrecen and Shanghai DianJi University strengthen ties in technical education

A delegation from Shanghai DianJI University visited the University of Debrecen.

The Chinese guests are primarily interested in technical training. The meeting also discussed the fact that the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen (UD) would like to appear in the Chinese metropolis, one of the venues of which could be DianJi University.

The guests were welcomed by József Tőzsér, Vice Rector for Sector Development responsible for Life Sciences; Okszána Kiszil, Director of Coordination and Strategy; and Géza Husi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen. The four-member Chinese delegation was led by Gong Siyi, Rector of Shanghai DianJi University.

Among other things, the visitors learned that the institution has 13 faculties and campuses in Debrecen, Nyíregyháza, Hajdúböszörmény, Szolnok, and Siófok. The number of students reaches 33 thousand, of whom 7,800 are foreigners, coming from 140 countries.

The Director of Coordination and Strategic Affairs also spoke about UD’s diverse foreign relations and doctoral training. He emphasized that UD has developed a diverse network with foreign industrial companies that have settled in Debrecen.

The Chinese guests reported that Shanghai DianJi University, founded in 1953, currently has 13,500 thousand students and more than a thousand lecturers. The institution focuses on the education of engineering, economics, and management but also deals with the education of literature, arts, and other disciplines.

A prominent area for them is the teaching of new, advanced technologies and their research, but they also consider talent management and cultural heritage important. They emphasized that they are open to creating innovation mechanisms.

Géza Husi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen, said that the first contact between the two institutions was made four years ago, and since then, delegations from Debrecen have also visited the Chinese city.

“The guests are primarily interested in industrial engineering training, mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, and building engineering training, and they would like to cooperate in this area. There was also talk of exchanging students. The doctoral school of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen is planning to appear in Shanghai, one of the destinations of which could be DianJi University,” he explained.

During the meeting, the head of the faculty, answering the guests’ questions, presented in detail the dual and doctoral training available at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen as well as the relationships maintained with the companies operating here.
