The University of Debrecen offers a course where students can acquire business knowledge in English
The Real-Life Business training was organized for the seventh time this year by the English-American Institute of the Faculty of Humanities together with the Debrecen Business Service Centers Roundtable.
During the semester’s lectures, experts from six companies—4IG, BT-British Telecommunications, Diehl Aviation, Flowserve, NI-Emerson, and Transcosmos—will help students in theoretical and practical sessions to provide insight into the life of companies.
The aim of the course is for students to learn about the world of the business service sector and the career paths available in the city and the region and to gain up-to-date, practical knowledge that will help them launch their careers. Representatives of the companies help the young people with authentic, practical presentations, personal career paths, and direct expert and managerial experiences.
“The special feature of the program is that each session is held by a representative of a different member company, thus ensuring variety, diverse perspectives, and the transfer of broad professional knowledge. In addition to the knowledge material, students also gain insight into corporate cultures through the speakers, so they can get to know the operation and values of the six large companies in a short time,” Project Manager of the DBSC Roundtable Éva Kissné Nyéki said at the training’s opening speech on Thursday.
During the semester, students can learn about the operation of the business service sector and local representatives of the sector and gain knowledge about competencies that are indispensable in the business world, such as problem solving, critical thinking, business communication, the importance of teamwork in a large corporate environment, change management, time management, and project management.
More than 200 students have completed the training since its launch in 2018. The course is an optional subject for students of the English-American Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen within the framework of the business specialization.
“The institute’s main goal is to enable our students studying in various training programs to acquire up-to-date knowledge and skills that can be applied well in their later lives and careers and to be placed in any field. In addition to the internationally embedded academic background, the partnership established with the round table is also very important for this, as well as the course launched for the seventh time this year, which helps our students develop such competencies,” director of the English-American Institute Balázs Venkovits emphasized.
The fall training started unusually with a panel discussion, where university and corporate representatives and leaders of generations Y and Z discussed their experiences.
