The University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Science and Technology has become a partner of a global company
A new practice-oriented training opportunity has opened for chemical and electrical engineering students at the University of Debrecen (UD). The Faculty of Science and Technology of UD has signed a cooperation agreement with KunlunChem, which is building an electrolyte factory near Szolnok, which covers not only education but also research and development.
KunlunChem, one of the world’s five largest electrolyte manufacturers, announced in the spring that it is building a state-of-the-art electrolyte factory near Szolnok. The company, which has more than 20 years of manufacturing experience, will be a supplier of electric vehicles for German premium car brands, among others, unideb.hu informs.
The company first contacted the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen regarding the design of the factory to be built between Szolnok and Abony, and then they sought further cooperation opportunities in the fields of training and research and development.
“In such an electrolyte manufacturing plant, there are many problems that require continuous development: in addition to products, to optimize technology, as well as to increase energy efficiency and environmental safety. As part of the cooperation, the faculty’s experts will also be able to participate in these innovative works,” detailed Ferenc Kun, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology.
KunlunChem offered to advertise scholarship opportunities and internship programs for their students, and they are also open to starting dual training with the faculty in the near future as a first step in the undergraduate program of chemical engineering.
A cooperation agreement was also signed, which focuses on the fields of higher education and research and development and provides opportunities for numerous joint educational and research activities, as well as development projects.
“To operate and further develop the technology, the factory will need a large number of chemical and electrical engineers, in the training of which we are at the forefront in Hungary, since we have implemented very serious developments for this purpose. The full renovation of the chemistry building will be completed by the first half of 2026, allowing our students to study in truly 21st-century conditions. In addition, knowledge related to batteries has been included in the undergraduate program of chemical engineering and chemistry in a unique way in our country, and we are working to have this appear in our undergraduate program of materials engineering and in some form in the undergraduate programs of electrical engineering and physics. This makes our faculty attractive not only to those wishing to continue their studies but also to companies,” explained the head of the faculty.
Ferenc Kun added, “The cooperation between the University of Debrecen and KunlunChem fits perfectly with the international and strategic aspirations of the institution, as it opens up new opportunities in connecting education and research. The partnership thus launched will serve both the professional development of the university and the innovation aspirations of the region.”
