The Vehicle Laboratory in Debrecen has been completed
A vehicle laboratory and mini test track have been built in the science, technology, and innovation park of the University of Debrecen, linked to the educational and innovation developments of the Debrecen Automotive Research Center. The government supported investments in the engineering and science faculties of the University of Debrecen with HUF 29 billion, including HUF 4.9 billion for the construction of the newly completed Vehicle Laboratory.
The planning of the Vehicle Laboratory began five years ago with the aim of being able to serve the automotive and battery factories that were settling in Debrecen. The development was implemented in the science and industrial park of the University of Debrecen with HUF 4.9 billion.
“This is an outstanding moment for the University of Debrecen, the city, and all of us, because we all believe in the power of partnership. The opening of this Automotive Research Center is much more than the inauguration of a building. This is a sign of trust, commitment to innovation, and a strong statement of what we are capable of together,” emphasized Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, at the handover.
The University of Debrecen carried out the design and equipment with instruments jointly with the Bavarian company.
“The university and the BMW Group agreed on what equipment should be placed here in order to prepare BMW electrical mechanics from all over the country for the future, for example,” said Zoltán Bács, the university’s chancellor.
According to Mayor László Papp, Debrecen has opened a new chapter in the city’s history with this investment.
“The handover of the University of Debrecen’s vehicle laboratory is the beginning of a new period. A development phase that is built on the stable foundations laid in the past. Following the opening of the BMW factory already operating in our city, we intend to open one of the defining centers of Hungarian innovation and automotive research,” stated László Papp.
Balázs Hankó also attended the handover of the vehicle laboratory, which is unique in the country. In his speech, the minister responsible for culture and innovation emphasized that this is where practice from the present to the future meets.
“When the government spent HUF 650 billion on higher education over the past decade, it was right to allocate every tenth forint of this to the educational and research development of the University of Debrecen, one of the jewels of which is related to the automotive industry, thanks to BMW,” Balázs Hankó was heard saying.
Investments in the fields of healthcare and the automotive industry continue in the 70-hectare university industrial park.
