The Vénkert Community Garden has once again become the most beautiful kitchen garden in Hungary

“Growing produce in a kitchen garden not only preserves tradition in kitchen gardens but also contributes to providing the residents with healthy and safe food and strengthening the short supply chain,” stated Imre Hubai, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the national award ceremony for Hungary’s Most Beautiful Kitchen Gardens on Tuesday in Karcag.

The state secretary emphasized that this year marks the 13th edition of the program, which has gained great popularity over the years both within Hungary and beyond its borders. By 2025, approximately 230 thousand gardeners from 868 settlements in eight countries had joined the initiative, and so far a total of 428 gardens had won the national award for Hungary’s Most Beautiful Kitchen Garden.

At the award ceremony, it was revealed that the Vénkerti Community Garden has become Hungary’s most beautiful kitchen garden for the second time this year, after 2021.

“In addition to the award, the Ministry of Agriculture awarded the Vénkerti Community Garden the title of Hungary’s Most Beautiful Community Kitchen Garden,” Mayor László Papp announced on his Facebook page.

28 families from the area are taking care of the beds in 14 plots in the Sinai Miklós Street park.

At the ceremony, State Secretary Imre Hubai also emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture gives special attention to the situation of small-scale farmers. In 2010, the government enabled direct sales by small farmers so that primary producers can deliver their products to consumers in local markets. The key to boosting horticulture is to combine local production with local sales. The short supply chain ensures that the benefits of the values born from Hungarian soil remain local.
