These will be the three new roundabouts in Debrecen according to the plans
Debrecen’s city council may amend the town‑planning instruments in connection with the development of Létai Road and Lahner Street. The city has already submitted its application for EU funding for these investments.
According to the proposal by Chief Architect István Gábor, Létai Road is the primary east‑west collector road for Kondoros and Biharikert, providing direct transport links to the city center via Vámospércsi Road and Faraktár Street. Similarly, Lahner Street is an integral part of traffic management for suburban residential areas, connecting northwards to Létai Road and southwards to Diószegi Road.
Two major junctions on Létai Road — at Lahner Street and at Nagybánya and Kisbánya Streets — are planned to be rebuilt as roundabouts, as is the junction of Lahner Street and Diószegi Road.
The plans also include the full renewal of Lahner Street and modernization of rainwater drainage. Létai Road would be upgraded from the Vámospércsi junction to the Kondoros canal, with the road pavement widened to 7 meters. A Copenhagen‑style cycle path will also be built along Létai Road, raising the cycle path one curb above the roadway, making cycling safer.
The site plan attached to the chief architect’s proposal includes designs for all three new roundabouts:
- At the junction of Létai Road and Lahner Street
- At the junction of Létai Road with Nagybánya and Kisbánya Streets
- At the junction of Lahner Street and Diószegi Road
The city council will discuss the proposal next Thursday.
