Town Hall Walks to continue in January 2025

In December 2024, the first Town Hall Walks organised by VisitDebrecen were held with great interest in the renewed Old Town Hall.

The doors of the historic building will reopen in January 2025 for the first time on the 21st of January, on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture, when Deputy Mayor István Puskás will welcome visitors.

Located in the historic city centre, the Town Hall has been the administrative centre of Debrecen for more than 500 years. The building has been rebuilt several times over the centuries, with the latest modernisation completed last autumn. Spectacularly renovated and with new attractions, the Town Hall was opened to the public on several occasions last December, with guided tours of the building’s rooms, including the Simonffy Hall (the main council chamber), which houses the Assembly and the new mayor’s handbook library, while hearing many interesting facts about the building’s history and famous residents.

Due to the enormous interest, the Town Hall Walks will continue this year, organised by VisitDebrecen, once a month according to the plans. This year’s first walk will take place on the Day of Hungarian Culture on Tuesday, the 21st of January, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor István Puskás will lead the walk. Regarding the Town Hall Walks, the Tourism Director of VisitDebrecen, Enikő Tóth-Megyesi, said, “We are very pleased that there is such a great interest in the programme. In the future, we will also announce further thematic walks, as our goal is for local citizens to get to know their city better, in addition to tourists.”

Conditions for participating: Participation in the Town Hall Walks is free, but prior registration is required due to the limited number of participants. Applications are accepted in the order they are received. To register, please e-mail info@visitdebrecen.com with your name and e-mail address.

Register can be made in person at the Tourinform office at 20 Piac Street or by phone at +36 20 450 0506 by providing the name and, in the absence of an email address, the phone number. Participation is valid with the confirmation email sent for registration or, in the case of those who provided a phone number when registering, with a confirmation by phone.

The Town Hall Walks will continue in February, too. Information about the dates will be available on VisitDebrecen’s Facebook page and at the Tourinform office.
