Traffic on Külső Vámospércsi Road has become safer

The Municipality of Debrecen has completed the construction of the missing section of the service road next to Külső Vámospércsi Road. The investment has eliminated a traffic safety problem that had existed for years, which had previously hindered the continuous and safe movement of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

After the state renovation of Highway 48 in 2022, a property remained in the service road’s path, interrupting the roadway. This made everyday travel difficult for residents in the area for a long time. After hearing the residents’ complaints, the city purchased the property for HUF 35 million, then demolished it and built the missing section of the road.

Mayor László Papp stated at the handover that although it is a short section of road, the development has solved a problem that has been going on for many years and required serious legal and technical preparation. He emphasized that the local government served the safety and comfort of the locals with this investment, as the service road became continuous, and those traveling on it no longer have to take risky detours.

Member of Parliament László Pósán highlighted that with the construction of the new section, traffic has become safer, and bus stops are also easily accessible, so the everyday life of those living in the area has become noticeably more comfortable. He also added that guarantee elements must be included in public procurement tenders that ensure the proper handling of public comments.

Local government representative Gyöngyi Dankuné Nagy pointed out that the locals have been waiting for a solution to the problem for a long time, and now they can finally use the service road safely on foot, by bicycle, and by car. At the same time, she expressed her delight that cooperation based on the needs of the population and the assistance of decision-makers had contributed to the handover of the development.

The contractor completed the work on October 7, 2025. The demolition of the building and the road construction were carried out from the municipality’s own resources, a gross amount of HUF 20.4 million.
