Waberer’s Debrecen logistics center helps relieve city traffic
A new base is being built in Debrecen with an investment of nine billion forints. The group is developing a warehouse logistics center spanning nearly 22,000 square meters in the Northwest Industrial Zone. The multifunctional facility is already structurally ready, and the modern logistics center is expected to start operating at the end of the year.
Waberer’s Debrecen base, under construction, has reached its highest point, marking the first rural center in the group’s national network development, which began in 2023. The nearly 22,000-square-meter facility will provide comprehensive warehouse logistics services, enabling the group to contribute to the city’s dynamic economic development. According to expectations, by 2030, approximately 4.5 percent of GDP will be generated in Debrecen.
“There is a place for a serious logistics company in the ecosystem, and we believe that the Waberer’s Group can become an outstanding economic player in the city through intermodal developments,” Chairman and CEO of Waberer’s International Plc., Zsolt Barna, said.
Waberer’s HUF 9 billion investment aligns well with the other developments of the Northwest Industrial Zone, from the customs yard to the truck terminal, which help alleviate the city’s burden of freight traffic from the industrial area.
“All of this contributes to making Debrecen’s traffic safer, more predictable, and liveable, and Waberer’s Debrecen center will provide hundreds of families with a secure livelihood, new jobs, and stable career opportunities,” Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa emphasised.
The construction of the logistics center, which began last fall, is progressing at a good pace: the complex is already structurally ready, and even the side walls have been completed. “We have reached one of the most defining stages of a long, complex process. The tradition of the topping-out ceremony dates back a long time and reminds us that the construction industry is not just about concrete, bricks, and steel, but also about people, teamwork, and common goals,” Regional Director of the contractor WHB Group, Norbert Geszler, highlighted.
