31 Major Road Resurfacing Projects and 8 New Roads Planned for This Year in Debrecen
Only five months of the year have passed, yet work has already been completed or is currently under way at 20 of the planned major road resurfacing sites. Of the road construction projects, two have been completed and a further two are in progress. The works began in March and, thanks to favourable weather conditions, are progressing at a good pace.
Kurta Street has been resurfaced over an area of approximately 1,700 square metres. In addition to the roadway, the pavement alongside the street has also received a new asphalt surface.
The refurbishment of Kolónia Street is likewise nearing completion. As part of the project, kerbstones have been replaced, the wearing course has been milled off and utility access points have been raised to the correct level. Specialists are currently carrying out the asphalting works. The investment will renew approximately 600 square metres of roadway on Kolónia Street. On Tuesday, weather permitting, road markings will be painted, completing the project in full.
Work commenced on Monday on Ötmalom Street. Contractors are currently removing the existing kerbs, and by the end of the project the road section will receive a new asphalt surface. Construction is also under way on Zöld Sándor Street. The project, which began last week, is currently focused on the demolition of pavements. As part of the development, kerbs will be replaced, a new pavement will be constructed and the road surface will also be renewed. In addition to road refurbishments, new road construction projects are also taking place across the city. In Halastó Street, contractors are already laying block paving, while road construction has been completed in Tőr Street and Seregély Street.
In this year’s budget, the city has allocated nearly HUF 2 billion to major road resurfacing and road construction projects. “Major road resurfacing is taking place at approximately 31 locations, either along entire street sections or parts thereof. In addition, road construction is being carried out in eight streets or street sections that previously had no hard-surfaced carriageway. The large-scale asphalting programme began in March and, thanks to the favourable weather conditions, the contractor is making excellent progress with the refurbishment of these street sections,” said Zsombor Gábor, Head of City Operations. He emphasised that localised road repair works are carried out throughout the year according to schedule. Owing to the favourable weather, hot-mix pothole repairs have been undertaken since February, using the most durable and effective asphalt repair technology available.
