40 Outdoor Fitness Parks Available in Debrecen
Debrecen’s outdoor sports facilities have further expanded, with four new outdoor fitness parks bringing the total number of such facilities in the city to 40. Those who enjoy running can choose from four running tracks. The municipality aims is to provide as many residents of Debrecen as possible with opportunities for active recreation and a healthy lifestyle.
Outdoor fitness parks are getting more and more popular in Debrecen. These facilities offer suitable exercise options for everyone from beginners to seasoned athletes and all purposes from strength training to improving endurance.
The city’s sports infrastructure has now been expanded with new fitness parks at the playground on the corner of Pandúr Street and Bihari Street, in Somlyai Park, at the Tusnád Street playground, and in the courtyard area behind 96 Derék Street.
“The fitness park behind me is our latest sports development in the Tócóskert district. It was requested by local residents, as there are already several such facilities in the area. The largest one is near the Ice Arena and there are two smaller ones nearby, but there was none in this part of Tócóskert. We have now filled that gap with this fitness park and I wish to see another one built in the future, because Tócóskert is quite a large neighbourhood. An additional fitness park would further support sports development in the area,” said city councillor János Sánta.
This development not only expands opportunities for physical activity but also contributes to health promotion and disease prevention. One of the greatest advantages of the fitness parks is that they are free for everyone to use. Located in green surroundings, they encourage outdoor exercise and recreation. In several locations, the fitness equipment is situated close to rubberised running tracks and playgrounds, providing opportunities for active leisure for all age groups from children to older adults.
“Fitness parks play an important role in preserving and improving the overall health of the population. These facilities are available free of charge in public spaces and green park environments with good air quality. They encourage and motivate people to engage in outdoor physical activities,” emphasised Orsolya Hamecz, Head of the Green Spaces Department.
With the addition of the four new fitness parks, Debrecen now has a total of 40 such facilities. Running tracks are available near the Great Forest Stadium, at Liget Square, in Tócóvölgy, and in Józsa, with a combined length of approximately 3 kilometres. The municipality’s goal is to make free exercise opportunities available in as many districts of the city as possible.
