Direct Train Services from Debrecen to Lake Balaton to Return This Summer

During the summer peak season, both train and coach services will operate more frequently and with increased capacity. Travel options between Budapest and Lake Balaton will be expanded, while additional train and coach services to the lake region will also be available from Transdanubia as well as Northern, Eastern and Southern Hungary. Bicycle transport will be available on all trains, and services to both the northern and southern shores of the lake will regularly include high-capacity bicycle carriage wagons.

Passengers will be able to make use of dining-car services on the southern shore routes and bistro services on the northern shore routes. Seat reservations are compulsory for long-distance travel on all limited Balaton services, including all InterCity and express trains. Passengers travelling with a national travel pass or a Hungary24 day ticket must also obtain a seat reservation for the designated sections. When travelling with a bicycle, in addition to a bicycle ticket, a bicycle reservation is required on all Balaton-bound trains. For this reason, passengers intending to transport bicycles are advised to purchase their tickets in advance to ensure that travel is possible on their chosen service.

A traditional feature of the summer peak timetable is the network of direct services departing from major regional cities. Despite restrictions caused by track maintenance works, maintaining these services remains a priority for the MÁV Group this year.

Their popularity is demonstrated by the fact that nearly 250,000 passengers chose these services last year.

At the same time, operating these routes has become considerably more challenging because, due to the construction of the Southern Railway Ring, train services between Budapest-Kelenföld and Ferencváros can currently run on only a single track. As a result of this bottleneck in the capital, Aranypart, Szabolcsi Tekergő, Aranyhíd and Ezüstpart express trains will all commence operation only from 26 June. Seasonal weekend and public holiday services, including the Vitorlás, Csabai Tekergő and Panoráma express trains, will nevertheless provide direct connections from the Great Hungarian Plain and Eastern Hungary from the start of the summer holiday period on 20 June.

From Debrecen, direct connection to the southern shore of Lake Balaton is provided by Aranypart Express services running between Záhony and Fonyód.
