Amateur Dodgeball Championship Returns in 2026
The Move, Debrecen! Amateur Dodgeball Championship, which has been highly popular in recent school years, is being organized again this year for students who do not regularly participate in structured sports activities.
A total of 72 teams from 43 educational institutions and dormitories in Debrecen—more than 770 students—are competing in four age groups (grades 3–4, 5–6, 7–8, and 9–11). The first competition day was held on 27 January 2026 in the sports hall of Kazinczy Ferenc Primary School and Elementary Art School, where 17 teams, representing more than 180 students, faced off. The top six teams in each age group will qualify for the championship finals.
At the opening of the event, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles welcomed the participating children, their teachers, and the organizers. She emphasized that the dodgeball championship is undoubtedly the most successful program of the “Move, Debrecen!” initiative, extremely popular among young people and eagerly anticipated each school year. Its goal is to help children find joy through movement, to build strong teams and communities, and to encourage them to compete proudly on behalf of their schools.
On behalf of the “Move, Debrecen!” movement, she expressed her gratitude to the students, teachers, and staff of Kazinczy Ferenc Primary School and Elementary Art School for hosting the championship events for the third time. She also extended special thanks to László Nádházi, the school’s director general; deputy heads Anikó Vajdaházi Molnárné and Csabáné Nagy; and PE teachers Gabriella Mihály, Ferenc Martinovics, Csaba Fehér, and Imre Huszka.
The deputy mayor also announced that the finals of this year’s “Move, Debrecen!” Amateur Dodgeball Championship will take place on 11 February 2026 at a prestigious venue: the Főnix Arena, which regularly hosts major international sporting events.
Also present at the competition day held at the Kazinczy School were Csaba Papp, head of the “Move, Debrecen!” movement, and János Sánta, the local municipal representative.
During the competition day for grades 3–4, the teams of Kinizsi Pál Primary School, Bolyai János Primary and Elementary Art School, Kölcsey Ferenc Reformed Practice Primary School, Debrecen German Primary School, Kazinczy Ferenc Primary and Elementary Art School, and Szoboszlói Úti Primary School achieved the best results and thus qualified for the finals. The event was supported by a donation of apples from the HAVITA-TÉSZ Agricultural Cooperative of Derecske.
