The Year’s Best Hungarian Nature Photos Return to Debrecen

Nature photography goes beyond aesthetic experience; it is a responsible mission that draws attention to natural values and the importance of nature conservation.

On the evening of 26 February, Magical Hungary held its large-scale awards gala and exhibition opening for the 16th time since the competition was launched in 2010. For the second time, the prestigious event was hosted by the Biodome of the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden, whose unique atmosphere provided a fitting venue for the closing of the 2025 competition season. At the event – which was both a celebration of photographic art and a commitment to conservation – Debrecen-born Csaba Daróczi received the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize and the accompanying Golden Crane statuette, while second and third place on the podium were taken by Csaba Lóki and István Hogya.

Within the clean-lined spaces of the Biodome, visitors were able to explore an exhibition built around a spatial installation, presenting the finest moments of this year’s competition through 206 photographs by 56 artists. The portfolios of the top three winners of the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize were given special prominence, and selected works by the winners of the various competition categories were also included in the display.

This year, the exhibition will be on view at eight venues across the country, including Debrecen, where the photographs will be on display at the Kölcsey Centre from 10 July to 24 August.
