Springtime Family Programs Offer a Charming Weekend Experience
This weekend, residents and visitors to Debrecen will be welcomed with music, dance, traditional crafts, market goods and food tastings on two consecutive days.
On Friday, 20 March, between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Borsos József Square will be filled with music and community programmes organised by the DEMKI Borsos Villa Community Centre. During the afternoon, Imre Bíró and his band will provide the music, the Derecske Rainbow Folk Dance Ensemble will perform, and the atmosphere will be ensured by Zsiga Gyönyörű. Visitors can enjoy a market of local produce, a traditional carousel, a wooden playground, craft activities, as well as hot tea and freshly baked savoury scones. Guests will also be able to taste pork-and-cabbage stew or freshly grilled sausages.
On Saturday, 21 March, between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., the courtyard and workshops of DEMKI Artisans’ House (6 István Nagy-Gál Street) will come alive. The day’s musical hosts will be László Simándi and the band Sonivius Vappae, while visitors can gain insight into the world of traditional crafts at several locations. Demonstrations will be given in the leather workshop of László Hutkai, the pottery workshop of Angéla Terdik and Ádám Szántó, and the weaving workshop of Éva Ungvári Bodóné.
The programme at DEMKI Artisans’ House will be enriched throughout the afternoon by a craft fair, an exhibition opening, a petting zoo, children’s craft activities, a quiz, traditional games, singing and dance performances, and tastings. Among the stallholders will be an artisan butcher, a furniture painter, jam and syrup makers, a goldsmith-metalworker, a candle maker, a soap maker, a felt maker, a potter, a lace maker, a bead stringer and several weavers. At the end of the afternoon, 10 winners selected from those who correctly complete the quiz will receive handcrafted gifts.
The two programmes, held on consecutive days in two different districts, offer meeting points for all those who wish to relax with live music, traditional crafts, a lively market atmosphere and meaningful family activities.
