Busy Junction Development Reaches 60%, Completion Expected by End of Summer

Work on the development of the Vámospércsi Road – Budai Nagy Antal Street – Hétvezér Street junction is progressing well, with construction at approximately 60% completion. On Wednesday, the traffic lights on the Vámospércsi Road approach to the junction were modernised: a new support pole and modern signalling equipment were installed. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.

Specialists are carrying out earthworks on Faraktár Street. In this section, utility relocation works are being undertaken, which form part of the Vámospércsi Road–Budai Nagy Antal Street–Hétvezér Street junction development.

The capacity expansion of the busiest junction in the eastern part of the city began last May. The project is being implemented with HUF 1.4 billion in government funding.

“The capacity expansion development of the Budai Nagy Antal–Hétvezér–Vámospércsi junction is progressing according to schedule. The contractor is at approximately 60% technical completion. According to plans, the junction will be fully reconstructed by the end of the summer. At that point, it will be completely reopened to traffic,” said Zsombor Gábor, Head of City Operations, on Wednesday.

The Budai Nagy Antal Street approach was already reopened to traffic last November. The adjacent car park has been completed, and a service road is currently under construction. In addition, specialists are continuously carrying out utility construction and connection works. On Wednesday, traffic light control was out of operation for several hours at the junction and at the Létai Road intersection.

As part of the development, the traffic lights on the Vámospércsi Road approach to the junction are being modernised. Specialists are installing a new support pole and modern signalling equipment.

However, the work will not end there, as the signalling equipment on the Faraktár Street approach will also be upgraded at a later stage.

In order to minimise disruption to traffic, the contractor began replacing the signalling equipment after the morning peak period and completed the work by early afternoon. In Debrecen, three additional junction developments were launched last year: the modernisation of the Balmazújvárosi Road – Füredi Road – Csigekert Street – Szabó Lőrinc Street intersection, the construction of a 2×1 lane road between Main Road 354 and Vezér Street, and the reconstruction of the Szoboszlói Road–Külsővásártér junction.

The latter was reopened to traffic at the end of March.
