3rd Irinyi Student Volleyball Cup Held in Debrecen

Teams from six institutions of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre took part in the Move with Irinyi! – 3rd Irinyi Volleyball Cup, held at the Debrecen VTC Irinyi János Technical School on 22 April 2026.

Mixed teams of boys and girls competed in the sporting event, with each team allowed to include up to two registered student athletes. The main objective, however, was for the majority of team members to be students participating in the Move, Debrecen! school programme who do not engage in competitive sports.

At the opening ceremony, the teams were welcomed by Diána Széles, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen, Sándor Szilágyi, Director General of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre, and László Szilágyi, Principal of the Debrecen VTC Irinyi János Technical School.

Diána Széles emphasised that the primary aim of the Move, Debrecen! school programme is to bring a sense of carefree happiness into the lives of students in Debrecen through sporty, cheerful and relaxed community activities. The organisers believe that shared physical experiences help to ease the challenges of everyday life and shape schools into truly cohesive communities. It is encouraging that schools themselves take the initiative to organise sporting competitions, thereby giving every student the opportunity to compete for their own school. The Deputy Mayor thanked the coordinators participating in the programme and the heads of institutions supporting it, noting that without them this branch of the initiative could not function effectively. In recognition of their work, she presented symbolic gifts on behalf of the Move, Debrecen! programme to Beáta Kozmáné Kiss, teacher at the Debrecen VTC Irinyi János Technical School and coordinator and organiser of the cup, as well as to Sándor Szilágyi and László Szilágyi.

According to Sándor Szilágyi, Director General of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre, a school is a community where students must learn, take part in sport, and engage in communal leisure activities, as together these provide the experiences that are essential at this stage of life. The Debrecen Vocational Training Centre joined the Move, Debrecen! school programme because it considers it vital that every student engages in physical activity and sport in the interest of a healthy lifestyle. He also recalled his own student years, when numerous sporting events and competitions were held among schools in Debrecen, the county, Hajdú-Bihar and beyond. Although such events became less frequent for a time, it is encouraging that their number is now increasing again, and the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre supports their organisation.

Final results of the Move with Irinyi! – 3rd Irinyi Volleyball Cup:
1st Debrecen VTC Irinyi János Technical School
2nd Debrecen VTC Chemical Technology Technical School
3rd Debrecen VTC Mechwart András Engineering and IT Technical School
4th Debrecen VTC Creative Technical School
