Refurbished Flower Planters to Be Placed on Piac Street
Aesthetically improved, refurbished, and newly planted flower planters designed to match the character of the city centre will soon be placed along Piac Street in Debrecen.
On the section of Piac Street between Kossuth and Szent Anna Streets, the condition of the pedestrian-friendly public spaces created on both sides has suffered damage in several areas in recent years due to improper use. Vehicles regularly drove onto and parked within the landscaped pedestrian side lanes, in many cases even in front of properties that originally had rear vehicular access. On several occasions, vehicles also drove onto the green areas, causing significant damage to plants. In addition, elements of the irrigation system were repeatedly damaged beneath vehicle wheels, while the soil also became compacted. The use of pavement areas for goods deliveries also placed considerable strain on the surfaces: heavier vehicles caused subsidence of the paving and structural damage in multiple locations.
In order to protect the condition of the pedestrian public spaces, planters were therefore installed as physical barriers along the affected sections.
As a temporary solution, installation was carried out using readily available plants and simpler planters so that the problematic areas could receive protection as quickly as possible. At the same time, the collection and refurbishment of previously used flower planters matching the city centre’s appearance also began. The refurbished planters will soon return to Piac Street with a higher aesthetic standard and even more colourful floral content.
