Debrecen’s Extreme Sports Park Gains Even More Traction
DEBEX Extreme Sports Park is becoming increasingly popular, attracting almost 40 per cent more visitors in recent months than during last year’s spring season. The facility on Derék Street welcomes fans of wheeled action sports every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. until the end of the school holidays.
A trial cycling training session was held at DEBEX on Monday afternoon. Even the exceptional heat did not prevent the competitors from continuing their preparations as perseverance and four to five training sessions per week are essential for any athlete hoping to progress to the next level. “I am currently competing in the intermediate category, and I am preparing to move up and compete in the advanced category next year,” said trial cyclist György Fintor.
Of course, the outdoor facility is not used exclusively by professionals for training; anyone can try out and practise a variety of extreme sports at DEBEX. In line with the school holidays, the Extreme Sports Park will welcome visitors every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. until the end of August. The venue is growing more popular year by year. “Last year we exceeded 14,000 admissions and this year we have already surpassed 5,400 admissions, which means that visitor numbers for the same period have increased by 39 per cent compared with last year,” revealed Tamás Vígh, Professional Director of DEBEX.
Under a new rule, the concrete skate park may only be used by those aged 12 and over after 7 p.m., meaning that in the evenings it will primarily be available to more experienced skateboarders. The restriction applies exclusively to the skate park, meaning DEBEX’s other six courses remain freely accessible.
