Call for Nominations for the “Cívis House of the Year” Award – 2026

In 2023, the General Assembly of the Municipality of Debrecen established the “Cívis House of the Year” Award, which aims to recognize buildings that reflect Debrecen’s architectural traditions and the local (Cívis) identity.

The municipality has announced a call for nominations for the award again in 2026.

The purpose of the competition is to honor historic residential buildings that serve to strengthen the city’s historical character and local identity. These buildings, through their architectural quality and efficient use of land, ensure the cultured provision of everyday use while, with their exemplary appearance in the cityscape and streetscape, they facilitate building use that meets modern needs, including the planned use of renewable energy.

Highlighting good examples and best practices is important for preserving and enhancing the value of the built environment.

Activities involving financial investment to protect Debrecen’s architectural heritage, as well as activities necessary for the ongoing proper maintenance, preservation of value, and responsible upkeep of the building, are recognized.

The text of the call for applications and its attachments—application form, declaration—are available here: https://www.debrecen.hu/hu/debreceni/civis-ertekek/palyazat-az-ev-civis-haza-dij-elnyeresere

The deadline for submitting applications is July 31, 2026.
