Reconstruction Enters Next Phase for Urban Section of Main Road 33
Work is currently underway on a roughly 250-metre stretch of Füredi Road, starting from No. 76. The comprehensive road reconstruction project is being carried out at a cost of HUF 1.3 billion and covers a total distance of 2.5 kilometres.
Kerb removal has begun on the urban section of Main Road 33, just before the recently completed junction. The reconstruction is continuing in phases from the junction of Csigekert Street, Szabó Lőrinc Street, Balmazújvárosi Road and Füredi Road as far as Bem Square. During the current phase, an approximately 250-metre section of Füredi Road between Nos. 76 and 94 will receive a completely new road surface across its full width. “Kerb removal work has started on the affected section of Füredi Road. This means the contractor is removing the worn-out kerbs and replacing them with new ones. Once this has been completed, the manhole covers in the outer traffic lane will be raised to the correct level. This will be followed by milling and asphalt resurfacing works,” said Zsombor Gábor, Head of the City Operations Department.
The modernisation also affects the Füredi Kapu residential development, where nearly 1,500 people live in more than 500 flats. According to city councillor Erzsébet Katona, the works were deliberately scheduled so that this phase of the reconstruction would take place during the summer period. “A number of residents raised the issue with me during constituency surgeries, and I also received emails with photographs showing that the road had subsided significantly and that vehicles made a heavy impact when driving over it. It was clear that the road surface here had deteriorated badly. However, we wanted to wait until the Csigekert–Szabó Lőrinc junction had been completed, as it was essential to ensure that access to and from this part of the city remained uninterrupted,” she said.
Reconstruction of Füredi Road began in mid-June, with the contractor carrying out the works in phases. Over the coming days, the work zone is expected to extend towards the junction of Main Roads 33 and 35. The aim is to complete the reconstruction of the Böszörményi Road–Füredi Road junction by the end of August. The full modernisation of the almost 2.5-kilometre road section is being funded by the state at a total cost of approximately HUF 1.3 billion.
