Debrecen Bicycle Museum Celebrates Second Anniversary with New Exhibition Space
Based on Attila Katona’s private collection, the permanent exhibition opened on 1 August 2024. Second anniversary celebrations last weekend included the opening of a new exhibition space as well as outdoor displays, free guided tours, and a birthday cake.
The oldest item in the Debrecen Bicycle Museum is the steerable running machine designed by Baron Karl von Drais in 1817, but the collection also features many other rare and remarkable bicycles. Over the past two years, the exhibition has attracted several thousand visitors, not only from Debrecen and the surrounding region but also from across Hungary and abroad. To accommodate the continuously expanding collection, the museum has opened a new exhibition space, which has been welcoming visitors since 1 August.
“Attila is the driving force behind everything, but the expansions made since the museum opened have also been possible thanks to Debrecen’s supportive community and the many friends who have helped along the way,” Deputy Mayor Diána Széles wrote on her Facebook page.
