The modernisation of street lighting in Debrecen continues

As part of the Green Codex, the modernisation of the city’s street lighting system continues, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Ákos Balázs announced on his community page.

In his video, Ákos Balázs highlighted that the measure will include the installation of environmentally friendly, energy-saving, high brightness, adjustable LED luminaires, thus contributing to environmental protection and traffic safety.

The construction works started on the 23rd of September 2024 at two locations. As part of the newly launched phase, controllable LED luminaires will be installed in the following streets:

Gönczy Pál Street, Simonyi Road, Hadházi Street, Huszár Gál Street, Ótemető Street, Simonyi Road, Péterfia Street, Széchenyi Street, Víztorony Street, Kishegyesi Road, Csigekert Street, Köntösgát sor, Szent Anna Street, Bocskai Road, Tokaji Street, Felsőjózsai Street, Sillye Gábor Street.

Phase VI will take around two months to complete, depending on the weather, and will involve replacing 733 luminaires on street lighting columns.

This will reduce the luminaires’ installed power by around 40 kW, resulting in annual power savings of 160,000 kWh and a reduction of around 4 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

By the end of Phase VI, the municipality will have replaced 4,609 LED luminaires, saving 1.52 million kWH hours of energy and 38 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This energy saving is equivalent to the annual consumption of more than 600 of the average family house.
