Fészek Reformed Kindergarten in Debrecen received a new nursery building

The new day nursery on the Nagysándor site was handed over on the 4th of December 2024. The 840 million HUF investment has resulted in four new classrooms for 56 children in the Fészek Reformed Kindergarten and Day Nursery. At the inauguration ceremony, Zsófia Koncz, State Secretary for Families, pointed out that the number of places in nurseries had more than doubled since 2010.

The Fészek Reformed Kindergarten has been expanded with a new 610 square metre, barrier-free, energy-efficient nursery building equipped with modern facilities and a warming kitchen.

In the building, education based on Christian values will complement the daily care of children. Caregivers will have an important role in this work.

“How to pray, what the behaviour emphases are, love, respect and acceptance of each other should be shown. These will be given to the young children as a model,” said Mariann Iszlai-Kovács, Director of the Fészek Reformed Kindergarten and Day Care Centre.

At the opening ceremony, Károly Fekete, Bishop of the Tiszántúli Reformed Church District, said the kindergarten in Nagysándor telep also serves the greater joy of the Lord. “I wish that our nursery will be a joyful place that can nourish both young and old with joy and turn the joy of belonging to Christ into life,” he said.

Deputy Mayor Diána Széles, the district’s municipal representative, drew attention to the power of unity. The local government provided the land for the project free of charge, and the construction of the nursery cost almost HUF 840 million. HUF 662 million came from the European Union, and the rest was provided by the Hungarian state. The Deputy Mayor said that as many institutions as possible should help families.

“Today, the European economy is not at a level where mothers can stay home with their children. Instead, it is necessary to return to work, and parents must both get in line. In such cases, it doesn’t matter what institution we take our child to,” she pointed out.

MP Lajos Kósa spoke about how Nagysándor-telep has developed dramatically in the past two decades and will continue to do so. “This will also be a garden suburb of Debrecen like Csigekert, Köntöskert, and Hatvani utcai kert, which are in the area. Incidentally, we are also trying to follow this in urban development. Now, there will be a complete transformation of Pósa Street because it is a crucial crossing point, ” he highlighted.

“In Hajdú-Bihar County, fourteen years ago, there were nursery schools in 22 settlements; today, this is provided in 57 settlements. The development of the nursery network is a real success story in Hungary,” Zsófia Koncz, State Secretary responsible for families, talked about. 2010 there were 32,500 places in the country, and now there are more than 68,000.

“It is striking that two and a half times as many settlements now have nurseries than before. When young people think about where to settle and choose their home, this is an essential aspect,” Zsófia Koncz, State Secretary for Families at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, emphasised.

The nursery can accommodate 56 children in four group rooms. This development has created eleven new jobs.
