Praktiker opens a new store in Debrecen

Praktiker opened its first store in Debrecen in 1998. Since then, thanks to Debrecen’s dynamic development, more and more families have wanted to build homes in the city and its surroundings.

Due to the increased demand for building materials and tools needed for DIY and home renovations, the DIY store chain will soon open its second store in the city.

In recent years, Debrecen has become the most dynamically developing city in the region. This is partly due to the large companies that have settled in the town. The city’s development is attractive to companies, but more and more families are planning their future here: many are settling in Debrecen and its agglomeration. More and more residents are looking for home creation and renovation products, such as various cold and warm coverings, tools, and sanitaryware. This is why Praktiker decided to open its second store in Debrecen, as announced at the DIY store’s presentation on Tuesday.

“The city’s development in this area is due to the factories, and if you go out on Kishegyesi Road, you can see the investments and apartment buildings being constructed. This is a residential demand because I don’t think this part of the city would develop if it weren’t for the residents’ needs,” László Cseh, Praktiker’s sales manager, said.

The new store welcomes customers on approximately 4,200 square meters on Kishegyesi Road from Thursday, the 6th of March,2025.

The proximity of the city’s largest housing estate, Tócóskert, and the suburban area significantly contributed to the location selection. The store’s opening will create about 50 new jobs in Debrecen.

“We are relocating nearly a dozen experienced colleagues from our old store here, who wanted to participate in the construction and opening of the new store at their own request. We also quickly and efficiently recruited new entrants alongside them,” Csaba Nagy, the company’s store manager in Debrecen, pointed out.

As part of its social responsibility, Praktiker will donate approximately HUF 500,000 to the neighboring Kenézy Gyula Campus children’s department on Thursday, the opening day of the new store.
