Cyclists were offered breakfast in Debrecen

Many workplaces across the country welcomed people who cycled to work with breakfast. The Hungarian Cyclists’ Club organised the popular “Breakfast for Bikers” event on Tuesday, with 20 companies joining alongside  the Mayor’s Office in Debrecen. The campaign aims to promote cycling.

Teva employees “rolled in” one after another and received their breakfast at the reception point set up in front of the company on Tuesday morning. The employees were welcomed here with a granola bar, fruit and soft drinks. Cycling is a popular form of transportation at the company: from spring to autumn, about three hundred employees cycle to work.

“I’ve actually been cycling every day for years, so it’s a habit for me. I think it’s a very good thing because it can motivate people who don’t usually get on a bike, so I think it’s motivating for them,” Orsolya Ármós said.

The company has been promoting cycling for years. For this they have set up bicycle storage facilities and half a hundred company two-wheelers are available for transport within the factory. In addition, a number of joint cycling programmes are organised. Several Teva managers already cycle to work.

“Let’s move with Debrecen, which is the theme of the event. And for the next two weeks we will extend this cycling experience. In September, we will have another month of health, where we invite people to cycle to work,” CEO of Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Cristiano Salvadeo said.

Emerson NI‘s Debrecen subsidiary has been an active participant in the “Cycle to Work” campaign for more than ten years. At the breakfast for bikers, croissants, vitamin drinks and muesli bars were waiting for those arriving by bike.

“These initiatives are always a good way to get praised and rewarded. It also matters that they arouse interest and enthusiasm, especially in such beautiful weather. I think a lot of people got on their bikes for that reason,” Eszter Uri highlighted.

The aim of the national campaign is to promote sustainable, environmentally friendly commuting and to raise the profile of the growing number of cyclists. The campaign doesn’t end with breakfast, the “Cycle to Work” challenge in an app will run throughout May, with Emerson NI entering two teams.

“All members have to do is start the app in the morning when they leave for work, the GPS will track them until they arrive at work and automatically stop. These statistics are collected by the app, so points can be accumulated, there are different challenges seasonally, we can track how much people cycled to work,” organiser Beatrix Kolozsvári said.

20 companies joined the Bring Your Bike Breakfast organised by the Hungarian Cyclists Club in Debrecen, in addition to the Mayor’s Office.
